Add Fibromyalgia to the on going list.....
Dr. S was great today!!
I approached him with compliments today and found him more open and willing to listen and more compassionate. Gotta rub the ego!! He explained why MIL's magnetic pillow worked great for her ankle, but didn't work great for my joint pain. That was pretty interesting. I have my 3rd radio frequency nerve ablation on the 30th. Praying that "third time's a charm". He was surprised again that I could point directly at a nerve branch. This time he could even feel a knot in the nerve. He said where I explain the pain radiates to is right on for the nerve branch. That made me feel good b/c I was getting paranoid that the Endo was creeping back--it's not! He said that my pain under my left rib cage could be "slipped rib syndrome" or a nerve that is irrated from being stretched when Dr. C pumped my abdomin full of gas during surgery. He said that if the pain isn't bothersome, then he would suggest a "wait and see" approach as it will usually calm down. I said that it gave me more paranoia than it did discomfort. He said he could understand why, but assured me that he felt that it would calm down. He confirmed that I am indeed blessed with Fibromyalgia and he Rx'd what he thinks will work well for me. It's a non-narcotic drug that's been out for about a year and has had great results for nerve and muscular pain. Oh please, oh please let it work! He said that it's not addictive like opiates are, but he said that his patients feel so much better b/c the pain is gone and he couldn't pry the bottle out of their hands if he tried. LOL!! I can relate with that. Added benefit is that it's a "mood lifter" as well. Partly from the fact that the pain is gone, but it does improve moods. I think at this point of the journey, that benefit is very welcome.
Since I have to list all my medications and this will not be discussed in my letter from Dr. C, I asked him if he would be willing to write a letter explaining my medications and conditions. He said he'd be more than happy to and made notes in my chart to jog his memory. He talked about how he has done references for friends and family and he is floored at what adoptive parents must go through to adopt. I told him I have the same frustrations, but I can understand why they are in place. He said that "any young person would be lucky to have people like you and your husband for parents". I told him thank you, but we are the ones being blessed. He said that I can still use Percocet as needed, but I'll soon find myself using it less and less. He said that he would prefer to have me stay on the Cymbalta awhile, but would be open to tapering off in the summer and tapering back on in the winter. I think I'll just stay on if it works--why fix what ain't broke.
We had a big dump of snow on Saturday morning and Friday night I could have swore that my foot and wrist were broken b/c of how sharp and intense the pain was. He said that there are now studies to prove that the barametric pressure plays a big part in the pain--it's no longer an old wive's tale. He chuckled at my ability to accurately predict snow this year.
The snow is free -- anyone want any? Rhonda
